Amy Farkas Karageorgos
Amy has over two decades of experience working to advance the rights of children and people with disabilities in and through sport. She has been supporting the Centre’s work on child rights since August 2019.
Current work
Amy is leading the Centre’s work on child rights in relation to Mega Sporting Events and is developing criteria that would be used by sport federations in evaluating bids for host cities.
Previous experience
Prior to joining the Centre, Amy was at the helm of programmes for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), research institutions, academia and several non-profit organizations.
At the global level, she was instrumental in establishing the Global Partnership on Children with Disabilities, the first Special Olympics program in Kosovo and the first development grant scheme for the Paralympic Movement. She is also well known for her leadership in brokering global partnerships between the United Nations, International Sport Federations, and leading disability organizations.
Since 2013 Amy has worked as an independent consultant and played an instrumental role in establishing a National Partnership on Children with Disabilities in Malaysia, developing a Communication Campaign to change the way disability is viewed in Tajikistan, advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities to be included in key UN documents including the UNESCO Charter on Physical Education and Sport, and in the delivery of the 1st Global Disability Summit in 2018.
